AAAFM-UCLA AWARDS 2023: Call for Nominations
Nomination Deadline: 20th May 2023
AAAFM Honors:
AAAFM honors and recognizes international scientists who have shown, during the course of their professional careers, outstanding achievements in the fields of Functional Materials.
AAAFM-Heeger Award ($3000):
The AAAFM-Heeger Award (named after Alan J. Heeger, Nobel Laureate) is a prestigious prize conferred on an outstanding, dynamic young researcher for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of Functional Materials. The maximum age considered is 45 years.
The awards will be presented at the 4th AAAFM-UCLA Conference on Functional Materials, which will be held in University California, Los Angeles, August 10-12, 2023.

Andrea Alù
Founding Director at the Photonics Initiative, Advanced Science Research Center, and the and Einstein Professor of Physics at the Graduate Center, City University of New York

Cinzia Casiraghi
Professor of Nanoscience in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manchester and National Graphene Institute in the UK.

AAAFM-Nakamura Award ($3000):

The AAAFM-Nakamura Award (named after the Nobel Prize winner Shuji Nakamura) is a prestigious prize conferred on an outstanding, dynamic researcher for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of Functional Materials. The age of the candidates must fall within this age bracket 46-65 years.
The purpose of the AAAFM-Heeger and AAAFM-Nakamura award is to recognize an outstanding scientist in the field of functional materials who has made significant contribution and whose work shows significant innovation in the field.
The awards will be presented at the 4th AAAFM-UCLA Conference on Functional Materials, which will be held in University California, Los Angeles, August 10-12, 2023.

The AAAFM-Stoddart 2021 Award (named after Sir James Fraser Stoddart Nobel Laureate) is a prestigious prize conferred on an outstanding, dynamic young researcher for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of Functional Materials.
The awards will be presented at the 4th AAAFM-UCLA Conference on Functional Materials, which will be held in University California, Los Angeles, August 10-12, 2023.

Inaugural AAAFM-Novoselov Award ($3000):

Named after Sir Konstantin Novoselov, 2010 NobelLaureate in Physics, the AAAFM-Novoselov Award will recognize outstanding researchers who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of 2D Materials.
The purpose of the AAAFM-Heeger and AAAFM-Nakamura award is to recognize an outstanding scientist in the field of functional materials who has made significant contribution and whose work shows significant innovation in the field.
The awards will be presented at the 4th AAAFM-UCLA Conference on Functional Materials, which will be held in University California, Los Angeles, August 10-12, 2023.

CRITERIA
The candidates must satisfy the following criteria:
- Candidates must be eminent, dynamic researchers, and must be recognized as emerging leaders in the field of functional materials, with a distinguished record of achievement of original contributions in materials related field.
- Candidates must have published extensively in high impact factor peer reviewed journals (showing good citation index results).
- Candidate must engaged or involved in innovative and cutting-edge research. Candidates involved in the creation of a patented candidate and / or a high-tech company resulting from the work would be greatly advantaged for this award.
RULES
1. Candidate can only receive the prize once and will not eligible for this again.
2. The winner needs to attend the AAAFM-UCLA conference personally to receive this award.
3. The winning candidate will deliver the “AAAFM-UCLA Lecture” at the AAAFM-UCLA21 conference at UCLA.
SELECTIONPROCESS
The members of AAAFM-UCLA organizing committee will review the applications (candidate’s CV and recommendation letters) and select one researcher for this this prestigious award.
AWARD NATURE
The prize will be composed of the following:
1. $3000 for AAAFM-Heeger, AAAFM-Stoddart Award and $5000 for AAAFM-Nakamura Award.
2. A certificate
3. Free registrations for AAAFM-UCLA next year Conference
DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 2023
Deadline for nomination submissions for AAAFM-UCLA award is 20 May 2023.
Late nominations will not be considered.
Outstanding Poster Presentation Award 2023
The Outstanding Poster Award has been established in 2015, to highlight good quality posters presented at the AAAFM-UCLA conferences.
AAAFM-UCLA aims at setting a platform for all the budding scientists and researchers to present their real-time work and share their views and aspects related to the theme of the conference.
Goal of this poster award is to encourage the clear communication of scientific content also to non-specialists of the presented topic. The evaluation emphasizes will put on the attractiveness of the graphic representation and clarity of text. Only posters that satisfy the communication criteria will take into consideration for the evaluation from a scientific point of view by the scientific committee at AAAFM-UCLA.

Communication criteria:
• Attractive graphical representation
• Appropriate and Relevant Content
• The poster should be a balance of text, figures, and space
• Intuitive structure
Scientific aspects:
• Scientific quality
• Potential impacts of the results
• Innovativeness of the approach
• Accuracy of Information Presented
The author(s) receive a certificate and one registration fee waiver for the AAAFM-UCLA conference in the following year, and the posters will highlighted on the AAAFM-UCLA website
A selection committee of three senior scientists will established during AAAFM-UCLA conference.
To be considered for the competition, poster-presenting delegates should email a PDF file of their poster to aaafm-ucla@aaafm.org by 1st May 2023.
