Key Responsibilities
 Develop accounting policies and establish the accounting data structure to assure that financial statements, tax returns, and grant reports (including indirect costs) are compliant with GAAP, government regulations, and best practices for not for profit organization.  Establish and oversee roadmap for continuous improvement in transaction processing systems and implementation of changes to the systems to reflect new types of transactions, and integration with other departmental systems.  Develop financial report formats and present financial reports (management, audited, annual report, bank covenants, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner, oversee preparation of financial statements, monitor progress and changes, and develop and maintain array of financial and operational performance metrics.  Maintain knowledge of tax regulations and provide financial input to tax planning efforts, coordinate with legal and outside accountants on tax issues.  Establish goals for Finance group, manage, coach, and develop accounting staff members, leveraging skills to drive process improvements and simplifications and maintaining a supportive work environment.
Qualifications

 Learn workflow and skills and task performed by other Editorial Team members to be able to function as backup if necessary.  PCheck and correct final galleys proofs to deliver Master Galleys to production on time as assigned each week. This work will include corresponding with authors, production staff, editors, and others to define and resolve problems as necessary.  Check revised manuscripts submitted to the Journal for completeness according to a list of requirements provided by the Publisher to the Contractor. This work will also include corresponding with authors, production staff, editors, and others to define and resolve problems as necessary.  Support maintaining editor databases.  Contact authors, reviewers, and editors to advance the Journal’s peer review process in a manner agreed by the Publisher and Contractor.  Attend editorial team meetings, both in the AAAFM office and online.  Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in English or a science-related discipline and 2-3 years of experience working in a professional setting. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred.  Strong professional writing and verbal skills needed for interacting with editors, authors, and reviewers.  Strong organization, multitasking, and time management skills needed for juggling many diverse tasks.  Strong skills in identifying, communicating, and addressing novel problems needed to address manuscript processing under deadline.  Strong ability and skill to working independently coupled with strong ethic for teamwork and collaboration when needed, necessary for working in small, highly cross-functional team.  Strong working knowledge of MS Office and Adobe software.  Willingness to adapt to new tasks, workflows, and tools in changing organizational environment.

Key Responsibilities
Helps develop and implement an outreach campaign for identifying and building relationships with science experts and journalists.  Conceives, writes, and edits introductory materials, including outreach and promotional materials about the new service, as well as topical fact sheets for journalists.  Helps research the landscape of communications training modules for experts and contributes to planning towards the service’s achievement of its communications training goals.  Oversees the process to determine the best approach for identifying database or similar software system that enables the detailed management of information regarding scientific communications stakeholders.  In collaboration with technical consultants, oversees the selection, purchase and/or adaptation of a commercial or custom designed software system able to fulfill the service’s immediate and long-term needs.  Assists the Director in both editorial and technical domains as necessary for the success of the expert/journalist software system.  Works closely with counterparts in AAAS to ensure smooth sharing of information between the new system and existing databases.  ICommunicates with various staff and experts to ensure that the service’s core mission is met over time.  Additional duties as needed
Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in science, communications, or journalism preferred, with a Master’s degree preferred.  Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in journalism, communications, and public/media affairs.  Minimum 5 years’ experience managing or coordinating complex projects involving technical/digital communications-related platforms.  Excellent writing, meticulous editing, and strong verbal communications skills.  Strong understanding of journalism and the digital media landscape.  Ability to work independently and on deadline.  Willing and able to adapt to challenges and necessary responsibilities.

Communications and Web Development Intern

Qualifications

Marketing Coordinator

Key Responsibilities
 Assist Institutional Licensing team with day to day marketing tasks – coordinating marketing projects and activities as requested; demonstrating a high level of flexibility and dedication to success.  Plan meetings and trade shows and events by identifying, assembling, and coordinating requirements; establishing contacts; developing schedules and assignments; coordinating mailing lists.  Prepare a variety of monthly reports and marketing automation systems on marketing effort and impact.  Manage and measure the timely booking and uploading of campaigns.  Assist with the production and distribution of marketing communication and customer training materials.  Pre-qualify sales leads.
Qualifications
 Undergraduate degree in marketing or relevant field.  Excellent communication skills (written and verbal; awareness of building strong and effective working relationships both internally and externally).  At least 1-3 years of related work or internship experience.  Strong understanding of traditional and emerging marketing channels.  Well organized and self-motivated.  Ability to work independently and on deadline.
